Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) make-up around 35% of your body’s muscle protein. They are essential for normal body functions and, along with other amino acids, help you recover from strenuous exercise. Unfortunately, your body can’t produce BCAAs. So, you have to get them from protein-rich food like soybeans, peas, meat and fish. While eating BCAA-rich food is good, a high level of BCAAs in your blood is unhealthy and can lead to diabetes. Generally, a lower level of BCAAs is better for you. However, extremely low values are not healthy either.
